Masai Mara, World Famous Wildlife area the name synonymous with the word ‘Safari’.  The Mara National Reserve forms only a part of a much larger eco-system of this area of Great Rift Valley. A bed of volcanic ash laid down millions of years ago by the now extinct volcanoes to the east have lead to a landscape of rolling hills with thin topsoil making a rich grassland with few deep root trees and the classic picture of an Acacia dotted savannah.

It is home to the ‘Big Five’  Buffalo, Elephant, Leopard, Lion and Rhinoceros as well as the Bat Eared Fox, Bushbuck, Cheetah, Dik-dik, Duiker, Eland, Gazelle, Genet, Giraffe, Hyena, Hartebeest, Impala, Jackal, Klipspringer, Kudu, Mongoose, Oribi, Reedbuck, Roan Antelope, Serval, Topi, Waterbuck, Wild Dog, Wildebeest, Warthog, Zebra. The primates being Baboon, Bush Baby and Monkey. It is also home to over 400 species of bird including the Ostrich and several birds of prey. The Mara River having Hippo and Nile Crocodiles.

Samburu, Buffalo Springs & Shaba, North of Mount Kenya the Ewaso Nyiro River threading its way through the countryside creates a swath of green forest against the surrounding savannah and near desert. The wildlife being attracted to the water holes even when the river is dry. Lion, Cheetah and Leopard hunt here. As well as the more common herbivores the rare endemic Gerenuk, Reticulated Giraffe and Greys Zebra can be found. The wooded banks of the river being home to a host of Birdlife.

Amboseli, With fantastic views of snow capped Mount Kilimanjaro across the savannah and swamp, this is the home to vast herds of Elephant and due to the different habit a wide range of wildlife.

Great Rift Valley and Lake Nakuru National park, Famous for its Flamingos the park is also has the Rhino sanctuary engaged in rescuing this endangered animal. The woodland around the lake is home to many primate and birds. The park forms part of a scenic trip down the Kikuyu Escarpment to the floor of the Rift Valley at Lake Naivasha then on to Nakuru. At Lake Naivasha you can take a boat ride to see the Hippo and a wide range of birdlife and walk the scenic lake shore with Giraffe, Antelope Zebra and other wildlife.

Highly Recommended possible in 1 day but best with overnight in either Nakuru or Lake Elementaita Lodge.
